How Hungary's 27% rate compares
Hungary's 27% standard VAT rate is well above the median of 21%, among the higher rates we track. It also applies a reduced rate of 18% on internet services, dairy, certain food, and a second reduced rate of 5% on books, pharmaceuticals, accommodation, restaurants. The most recently revised of these non-standard tiers is the second reduced rate, in effect since 2018-01-01. The current rate has been in effect since 2012-01-01, unchanged for several years.
