How Greece's 24% rate compares
Greece's 24% standard VAT rate is solidly above the median of 21%. It also applies a reduced rate of 13% on food, water, accommodation, restaurant services, and a second reduced rate of 6% on books, pharmaceuticals, theatre tickets, newspapers. The most recently revised of these non-standard tiers is the reduced rate, in effect since 2015-07-20. The current rate has been in effect since 2016-06-01, unchanged for several years.
